Portraits Session With Claire Vessot 2011 | Montreal Portrait Photographer

It’s been quite a long time since my last post. I’ve been so busy lately that I neglected the blog a bit, but I will come back here more often as I have a few blog posts to publish in the days that follow.

Three weeks ago I was, once again, commissioned by Brands 88/PAJgroup, the Global Licensee for ELLE Magazine’s own jewellery line to take some more portraits of the very talented Claire Vessot,  Elle jewelry Senior Designer. If you want to refresh your memory with the portraits of Claire I took last year, you can find the post here. This time I was required to provide some portraits of Claire in her office. These pictures will appear in a promotional brochure published by Elle. I think I have a serious reason to be happy and grateful for this opportunity.

I was delighted to work again with Claire and to get to know her work better. I had the feeling I was working in a temple, being surrounded by her cutting-edge and amazing designs as well as by her many awards won through-out the years. Claire is an accomplished graphic artist and her work can be described in just one word – breathtaking. Please check her work on Elle’s website and see what I am talking about.

For those of you interested in technical stuff, I will add that I used only two lights – one medium sofbox that I combined with natural light for fill and one gelled flash to recreate the lamp. Why flash instead of the lamp’s bulb? Well, because the light bulb was not powerful enough to give me the desired aperture I wanted to work with. The lamp bulb would have forced me to open up the aperture so that I would have lost all the details in the background and raising the ISO was out of question. The solution – create an artificial lamp with the flash. This is what I did and the result is not bad. See you next time!
